Wastewater deriving from urban settlements is known to have high concentration of chemicals due to drug (both medical and illegal substances) consumption.
There is no scientific evidence for this
Agricultural and farming activities are far from the big cities, but they also have the potential to pollute the water a lot.
Big cities usually have associated industries, which tend to pollute.
