Let's Clean Up!
Proper waste management
Let's clean up is a project aimed at managing solid waste in complex cities with our focus city being Rome using innovative technologies. We have a website to improve communication and increase waste management support.
The problem is poor waste management. The waste humans generate have become detrimental to our environment for quite some time now. The amount of waste generated are too much and humans are not able to deal with it using sustainable solutions. Nonbiodegradable wastes that are not recycled is filling our oceans and landfills. Let’s take plastic waste as an example. A recent study found that of the 6.3 billion metric tons of plastic waste that has been produced, only 9% of that plastic waste had been recycled.
This problem impacts negatively on humans and on the environment causing global effect of climate change. In Rome, it directly affects the people living near these landfills and poorly managed dumpsites such as shopkeepers, homeless people, citizens and animals.
The problem can be tackled with the website we are developing, which can create a community capable of addressing the problems related to poor waste management despite the complex social, territorial and political situation of the cities. The website helps sort out wastes using artificial intelligence and helps improves connection between those affected and stakeholders. The website will provide a means where citizens can snap photos, tag its location on a map. The website will also provide information on how to properly dispose of wastes and the hazards of improper waste disposal.
